As a former vampire, Simon's always been sympathetic to Downworlders. But after a training exercise goes wrong, he gets a glimpse into the Shadowhunters' prejudice as he learns about the origin of Helen and Mark Blackthorn, principal characters in The Dark Artifices.

This standalone e-only short story follows the adventures of Simon Lewis, star of the #1 New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments, as he trains to become a Shadowhunter. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy features characters from Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices, and the upcoming Dark Artifices and Last Hours series. Pale Kings and Princes is written by Cassandra Clare and Robin Wasserman.

What's it all about?
From reading the previous Shadowhunter book we all know of Simon’s past of being a downworlder, but when a half fae half shadowhunter comes to lecture at the school, the divide seems to come into place on who hates and who respects this downworlder. Helen Blackthorn shares her history as a child, and her parents love; this story revels in the account of Helen’s exile from the Shadowhunter world.

The Best Parts:
So even thought this story is about Helen, all I could focus on was Sizzy. I mean you can’t put a meaningful plot on and then let those two at it! It’s just unfair. I do love the story of Helen and Aline and their love for each other, but I also love how Simon and Izzy both convince Helen that their love can last.

The Worst Parts:
I have seen from previous books how Shadowhunters treat downworlders, and for some reason this time it seemed harsher. I don’t know if it was because of the age of the students at the academy and their juvenile tendencies, but they were despicable. If I was Helen I would have killed them all. Horrible little brats. I also loved and hated the last part of the book. I loved the the Seelie Queen had a shared on her POV of the story, I may not have liked it, but the woman was real about it, and for that I applaud the author. We got to see everyone’s perspective and then got to choose how we felt about the situation, because we all know that this will be coming up in her next series!

Final thoughts:
I love anything Shadowhunter. For some I think this story may be a little more dull than the rest form this series, but for me it just keeps adding to my knowledge of the characters and the plot line. At the end of it is a snippet of Lady Midnight set to come out next year.

When did Simon become so wise? He is the conscience of the Shadow world. And he finally kisses Izzy. About time!!!!
I loved the content of this story (finally something happens to progress the Simon and Izzy romance!) but it was so short! Still giving it 4 stars because it was enjoyable but I feel like it was even shorter than the previous stories. Would also like to see some new bonus material as we have had the same chapter of Lady Midnight in the past few stories.
This one was both infuriating (those who have read it will understand) and interesting, like I said above. Yay for Simon, and half yay for Helen. After reading so much about the Fae, though, it makes it hard to feel pity for them (sorry that may be a spoiler) But what the last part of this novella says does kind of make you wonder....can a Faerie truly love? I'm not so sure now.
I'm a big fan of Clare's writing and all things Shadow Hunter, BUT, some of the jointly written Shadow Hunter add-on series are too much the other Author. They lack the rich detail of Clare's writing, are a bit clunky in descriptions and wander from the story line too much. If you're an addict, as I am, go ahead and buy it but don't think it's representative of Clare's "Mortal Instruments" level of writing.
This is my least favorite installment so far. The gang has returned to Shadowhunter Academy after summer break. Simon had three disastrous dates with Izzy and he's feeling kind of hopeless.

The guest speaker this time is Helen Blackthorn and we learn the truth of her parents. It's grizzly but it's also another tale of the prejudice Shadowhunters feel for Downworlders and Simon is about to burst at the injustice.

The best part of this book was the end where we hear the tale again from the faery's pov and it left me teary-eyed. I'm hoping it's a foreshadowing of what's to come in Lady Midnight. Otherwise, this novella was a dud.
I really liked Simon and Isabelle's relationship starting again. They are a fun and awesome couple. Their still not my favorite couple, but I'm likely them more. This installment doesn't disappoint with the humor, just like the others. I liked seeing Helen Blackhirn again and learning more about her punishment. The clave is horrible! The main characters in TID and TMI are the only ones who are true good people! I love how Simon has his morals and isn't afraid to share them. To bad the shadowhuntets won't listen to him! this book wasn't my favorite, it was kinda boring throughout but it was still fun to read.
the tales from the shadowhunters academy series...just keep getting better and better..
so I am re reading books 4, 5, and 6..first to see if I missed anything..2nd because I think I have read them once..and 3rd..i just love these stories.. and I realise they re just stories..but as I am reading them...my imagination transforms the words into images,,and I not only read the words but watch the movie..two for the price of one,,,this is about the beginning of simons 2nd year, the humiliation of Helen..and a surprise visit from lizzie.. ms Cassandra..please dont stop at 10...or make 9 and 1 /4..that sort of thing,...
